Lightware Matrix Setup

The Lightware Matrix device is designed to be a virtual representation of a physical Lightware Matrix within Designer. It defines how Designer should send messages to this Matrix during failover. It also allows you to send test commands to make sure everything is connected properly. During failover the commands that Designer sends will be determined by the input/output routing configured in the Feed View.

  1. Configure the real Lightware Matrix to be on the same IP network as the Director/Actor network.
  2. Choose port 10001 in the real matrix configuration. (Other ports can be used, provided the same port is configured in Designer).
  3. In Designer, create a LightwareMatrix device. A LightwareMatrix device is created in the same way as any other device type. Please see the Creating devices section for step-by-step instructions on how to create a device, and select LightwareMatrix from the menu of different device types. This will open the LightwareMatrix device editor.
  4. Configure the LightwareMatrix device to have the correct IP address and Port.
  5. Test the connection using the controls in the “Test” section of the LightwareMatrix editor.

The LightwareMatrix device has these controls that control it’s behaviour on failover:

  • IP Address: The IP address of the real matrix.
  • Port: The TCP port number configured in the real matrix. We suggest using 10001.
  • Delay (ms): Number of milliseconds to wait after failover to send the Matrix commands. This can be set higher than 0 to allow for other failover operations to occur before triggering a matrix preset or route switch.

This section allows you to test the Lightware behaviour. Note that the values entered here are not stored between project restarts. There are two ways to test: either send Preset commands, or send specific Routes. Here we describe these fields:

  • Test Preset: The index of the preset on the Lightware Matrix to trigger.
    • Test this control by pressing the Test Preset button.
  • Test input: The index of the input to route to the output.
  • Test output: The index of the output to route the input to.
    • Test this control by pressing the Test Route button.
