MyDisguise FAQs
Answers to common questions about MyDisguise, covering accounts, Organisations, roles, buying and licensing, subscriptions, downloads and migration from Disguise Cloud.
I. MyDisguise and your account
Section titled “I. MyDisguise and your account”1. What is MyDisguise?
Section titled “1. What is MyDisguise?”MyDisguise is the Disguise account and licensing hub, and it replaces Disguise Cloud. You use it to set up your account and Organisation, buy and manage software products and licenses, and control your team’s roles and access across the Disguise platform.
It also links out to the rest of the Disguise platform, so the User Guide, Support and E-learning are reachable from the same place.
2. How do I create a MyDisguise account?
Section titled “2. How do I create a MyDisguise account?”Sign up at my.disguise.cloud (available on platform launch) with an email address and a password, or with your Google credentials.
Your account is personal to you. The choice between a personal and a business setup is made on the Organisation, not on the account, and it is set when the Organisation is created.
3. Do I need a new account if I already use Disguise Cloud?
Section titled “3. Do I need a new account if I already use Disguise Cloud?”No. Your existing Disguise Cloud account moves into MyDisguise, along with your licenses, your team and their access. Migration is automatic and begins the first time you sign in to MyDisguise.
II. Organisations
Section titled “II. Organisations”1. What is an Organisation?
Section titled “1. What is an Organisation?”An Organisation is your company or team’s shared account in MyDisguise. It brings your team together so you can manage roles, permissions and software access in one place.
Subscriptions and licenses belong to the Organisation rather than to an individual, which is what allows an Owner or Admin to buy once and then assign access to the people who need it.
2. How do I create or join an Organisation?
Section titled “2. How do I create or join an Organisation?”Both options live in the Organisation switcher at the top of the Organisations page, alongside the Organisation you are currently viewing. Select Create new Organisation to start a new one, or Join an Organisation to join one that already exists.
You can also create or join an Organisation during onboarding, when you first set up your account.
When you create an Organisation you give it a name, a location by country and an Organisation type. Choose the country carefully, because you cannot switch between a US address and a non-US one.
3. What is the Organisation ID for?
Section titled “3. What is the Organisation ID for?”Each Organisation has a unique identifier, shown on the Organisation Profile page with a button to copy it. You may be asked to provide it when contacting Customer Support, so that the correct Organisation can be identified quickly.
4. Can people request to join my Organisation without an invitation?
Section titled “4. Can people request to join my Organisation without an invitation?”Yes, once you add your company’s email domain under Domain Join Request on the Organisation Profile page. The field is empty by default, and while it is empty nobody can request to join, so invitations are the only way in.
- Domain is where you put your company’s email domain. Anyone signing up with a matching address is then shown your Organisation as one they can join, rather than starting one of their own and leaving you with two.
- Auto-join is how you decide who gets in. Leave it disabled if you would rather look at each request yourself, and they appear on the Members tab alongside your pending invitations. Enable it if you are happy for anyone with the right email address to join without asking.
Anyone joining becomes a Member by default. If someone needs to help run the Organisation, an Owner or Admin can make them an Admin from the Members tab.
5. Do licenses and subscriptions belong to me or to my Organisation?
Section titled “5. Do licenses and subscriptions belong to me or to my Organisation?”They belong to your Organisation. Subscriptions are purchased and managed at Organisation level, and an Owner or Admin then assigns individual licenses and seats to the people who need them.
III. Roles and permissions
Section titled “III. Roles and permissions”1. What roles can I assign?
Section titled “1. What roles can I assign?”There are three roles in a MyDisguise Organisation:
- Owner is assigned automatically to the person who creates the Organisation. An Owner has full administrative access, including purchasing subscriptions, managing licenses and people, assigning roles and permissions, and deleting the Organisation.
- Admin has administrative access to help manage the Organisation, including purchasing subscriptions, managing licenses, inviting and managing people, and assigning roles and permissions. An Admin cannot delete the Organisation or edit its settings.
- Member can access the products assigned to them through a license or seat, but cannot purchase subscriptions or manage licenses, people or Organisation settings.
Everyone in an Organisation is a member of it. Owner and Admin are elevated members, with permissions a Member does not have.
Owners and Admins manage roles from the Members tab.
2. What is the difference between an Owner and an Admin?
Section titled “2. What is the difference between an Owner and an Admin?”Only an Owner can delete the Organisation or edit its settings. Owners and Admins share every other permission: buying subscriptions, assigning licenses and seats, inviting and removing people, and changing roles.
An Owner is assigned automatically to whoever creates the Organisation, and ownership can be transferred to someone else afterwards. The Owner role is not offered in the role dropdown, so Member and Admin are the only options when you invite someone or change their role there.
3. How do I invite someone to my Organisation?
Section titled “3. How do I invite someone to my Organisation?”From the Members tab, select Invite Member, enter the person’s email address and choose the role you want to give them. They receive an email invitation with instructions on how to join.
Invited people appear in the members list with their status, so you can see at a glance who has accepted and who is still pending.
4. Can I change someone’s role later?
Section titled “4. Can I change someone’s role later?”Yes. An Owner or an Admin can change someone’s role from the Members tab, where the role is a dropdown you change in place.
The tab also shows each person’s name, email, role, status and the date they joined.
5. How do I transfer Organisation ownership to someone else?
Section titled “5. How do I transfer Organisation ownership to someone else?”On the Members tab, open the ellipsis menu at the end of the row for the person you wish to transfer to and select Transfer ownership.
Ownership cannot be changed via the role dropdown as it only includes Member and Admin. Owner is transferable but not an assignable role.
6. How do I remove someone who has left?
Section titled “6. How do I remove someone who has left?”An Owner or Admin removes them from the Members tab. Removing someone deactivates their access to the Organisation and automatically unassigns their licenses, so those licenses are free to give to someone else.
IV. Products and purchasing
Section titled “IV. Products and purchasing”1. What is the difference between Designer Starter, Designer Pro and X Series?
Section titled “1. What is the difference between Designer Starter, Designer Pro and X Series?”Designer Starter is free and ideal for learning Designer or evaluating its core features before moving to a paid plan.
Designer Pro unlocks the full professional toolset for designing and programming productions.
X Series lets you deploy and run productions on your own hardware, without requiring a Disguise server.
For a feature-by-feature breakdown, see the Licensing Comparison page.
2. What is the difference between a license, a seat and a subscription?
Section titled “2. What is the difference between a license, a seat and a subscription?”A subscription is a group of licenses or seats that share the same start date, end date, renewal structure and payment details. A license or a seat gives an individual user access to a Disguise product.
Designer and X Series use licenses, and Mapping Matter uses seats. Both are assigned from the Subscriptions & Licenses page to individual people in your Organisation.
A single subscription can carry multiple licenses or seats, which you can assign to the relevant people without purchasing additional subscriptions. It can also cover more than one product, and an Organisation can hold as many subscriptions as it needs.
3. How do I buy a Disguise product?
Section titled “3. How do I buy a Disguise product?”Browse the products on Our Software, compare them, then choose a product and a billing cycle of Monthly or Yearly. Yearly billing is discounted against monthly. Choose Select Plan to add the product to your cart and continue to checkout.
Designer Starter is a free download rather than a purchase, Designer Server is arranged through Contact Sales, and RenderStream is bought on the Disguise Store.
4. Which payment methods are supported?
Section titled “4. Which payment methods are supported?”You can pay securely by card through MyDisguise, or request an invoice during checkout if you prefer to pay offline.
Your license is issued once payment is processed, making card payments the quicker route. Card payments go through almost immediately. For invoices, your license appears once payment is received and processed. Everything you buy appears on the Subscriptions & Licenses page, however it was paid for.
5. Is there a limit on paying by card?
Section titled “5. Is there a limit on paying by card?”Yes. There is an upper limit on card payments. Above this amount, request an offline invoice at checkout or contact sales. Paying by invoice has no limit.
6. Can I purchase on behalf of someone else?
Section titled “6. Can I purchase on behalf of someone else?”Yes. You can buy a new subscription, or add another license or seat to an existing subscription, and assign it to someone in your Organisation. Licenses and seats are assigned from the Subscriptions & Licenses page.
7. Where do I get an invoice?
Section titled “7. Where do I get an invoice?”There is always an invoice. Where to find it depends on how you paid, and an Owner or an Admin can retrieve it.
- Paid by card. MyDisguise gives you a link in the subscription’s details panel, which opens the invoice on Stripe. Online renewals each generate their own invoice.
- Paid by invoice. It is emailed to you rather than held in MyDisguise.
8. I have received a promotion code for a license, how do I redeem it?
Section titled “8. I have received a promotion code for a license, how do I redeem it?”Paste the coupon code into the Add Promotion Code field at checkout.
9. I have been gifted a license, how do I redeem it?
Section titled “9. I have been gifted a license, how do I redeem it?”There is nothing to redeem. You will be notified when a license has been gifted to you, and it appears automatically in your Organisation, on the Subscriptions & Licenses page.
V. Subscriptions and renewals
Section titled “V. Subscriptions and renewals”1. Where do I see my subscriptions?
Section titled “1. Where do I see my subscriptions?”On the Subscriptions & Licenses page. Each subscription shows its status, how many days remain, and whether Auto Renew is enabled, and expands to show the products and licenses it contains.
Filters sit above the list for Product, status, Renewal Date, and the Member a license is assigned to. Filter by category to manage multiple subscriptions more easily.
2. Can I manage multiple products and subscriptions in one place?
Section titled “2. Can I manage multiple products and subscriptions in one place?”Yes. The Subscriptions & Licenses page gives you a single view of all your Disguise products, subscriptions and licenses, so you can keep track of software access across your Organisation.
3. Can I change, update or upgrade my subscription?
Section titled “3. Can I change, update or upgrade my subscription?”Yes. You can upgrade, expand or cancel your upcoming renewal as your needs change, at any time from the Subscriptions & Licenses page.
4. How do I add licenses to an existing subscription?
Section titled “4. How do I add licenses to an existing subscription?”Open the relevant subscription. Add product adds a different product to it, and Add License(s) adds more licenses of a product it already carries. Either way you stay on one subscription rather than starting a second.
Any additional license that you add takes the existing subscription’s end date, so a license added part way through a term runs to the current renewal date rather than starting a term of its own. A product added with Add product aligns the same way.
5. How does auto-renew work?
Section titled “5. How does auto-renew work?”Auto-renew is enabled by default for purchases made online, so your subscription renews automatically on its renewal date and is charged to the payment method from the original purchase.
If you do not want it to renew, you can disable auto-renew at the point of purchase, or at any time before the renewal date. You can enable it again at any time before that date, and disabling it does not affect the access you have already paid for.
6. When does my subscription start?
Section titled “6. When does my subscription start?”On the day you buy it, unless payment completes later, in which case the start date shifts to the payment completion date. Your first renewal date is set a full billing cycle after the start date, and both are shown at checkout before you confirm.
7. Who can change or cancel a subscription?
Section titled “7. Who can change or cancel a subscription?”Both an Owner and an Admin can purchase subscriptions, change a subscription and cancel an upcoming renewal. A Member cannot.
8. How do I cancel a subscription?
Section titled “8. How do I cancel a subscription?”There are two ways you can cancel a subscription. If you are an Owner or Admin, go to the Subscriptions & Licenses page and choose either option:
- Turn off Auto Renew on the subscription.
- Click the three dots (⋮) in the More column and select Cancel Subscription.
Both options work the same way:
- Your subscription stays active until your paid period ends.
- You will not be billed again.
- Unused time is not refunded.
Members cannot manage or cancel subscriptions.
9. Can I name my subscriptions and licenses?
Section titled “9. Can I name my subscriptions and licenses?”Yes. A subscription can be named at checkout, or renamed later by clicking the edit icon next to its name in the list.
A license can be renamed by editing the name in its right-hand details panel. A license keeps its name when it is reassigned.
VI. Licenses and seats
Section titled “VI. Licenses and seats”1. How do I assign or reassign a license?
Section titled “1. How do I assign or reassign a license?”On the Subscriptions & Licenses page, expand the subscription and then the product to see the licenses available for that subscription. Open the dropdown on the license you want to give out, which reads Unassigned until you assign it, and choose a person.
Reassigning uses the same dropdown, so you can move a license between people as your team changes. Choosing Unassigned takes it back without giving it to anyone.
An email is sent confirming that the license has been assigned.
2. How do I activate my Designer or X Series license?
Section titled “2. How do I activate my Designer or X Series license?”Designer Pro and X Series licenses need to be activated before use. See License Activation for a step-by-step guide.
3. How do I access Mapping Matter?
Section titled “3. How do I access Mapping Matter?”Once you have started a Mapping Matter trial or been assigned a seat, open Mapping Matter from the Apps section of the MyDisguise sidebar. It runs in your browser.
VII. Downloads
Section titled “VII. Downloads”1. Where do I download Disguise software?
Section titled “1. Where do I download Disguise software?”From the Downloads page in MyDisguise. It carries:
- Designer Starter.
- Designer Full, covering Designer Pro, X Series and Designer Server.
- Server Images, the OS images for Disguise servers.
- Designer Sample Projects, a free pack of projects to get started with.
Each software download has a version dropdown and a link to its release notes.
2. Which version of Designer should I download?
Section titled “2. Which version of Designer should I download?”In most cases, we recommend the latest version to get the newest features and fixes.
If you are using Disguise hardware, check the Product Compatibility guide first to confirm which Designer versions your hardware supports.
3. Can I download a previous version of Designer?
Section titled “3. Can I download a previous version of Designer?”Yes. Use the version dropdown on the Downloads page to pick an earlier release. Previous releases are also listed in the Designer Download Centre, each with its installer and its release notes, although we recommend the latest supported version where possible.
4. Where do I get an OS image for my server?
Section titled “4. Where do I get an OS image for my server?”On the Downloads page, under Server Imaging Downloads, choose your server model. For the full picture, including which OS each server takes, see Hardware OS Images.
VIII. Migrating from Disguise Cloud
Section titled “VIII. Migrating from Disguise Cloud”1. What is migrated to MyDisguise?
Section titled “1. What is migrated to MyDisguise?”Your account, your team and their access, and your licenses, covering all Cloud products and all Designer subscriptions.
Disguise Drive is not part of this migration phase. You can reach your Drive through MyDisguise, and the migration preserves your Disguise Cloud roles and permissions.
2. Do I need to do anything to migrate?
Section titled “2. Do I need to do anything to migrate?”No. Migration is automatic and starts the first time you sign in to MyDisguise. There is nothing to confirm and nothing to opt in to, and once it has started it cannot be paused or stopped.
3. What happens to my Disguise Drive?
Section titled “3. What happens to my Disguise Drive?”Drive is not part of this migration phase, so nothing about it changes. You open it from the Apps section of the MyDisguise sidebar, and it keeps your Disguise Cloud roles and permissions.
4. What happens to my Owner, Admin, Member or Billing role?
Section titled “4. What happens to my Owner, Admin, Member or Billing role?”Disguise Cloud has six roles and MyDisguise has three. Owner, Admin and Member carry across unchanged, and a Billing user becomes an Admin.
5. What happens to my Reviewer or Collaborator role?
Section titled “5. What happens to my Reviewer or Collaborator role?”Disguise Cloud’s Reviewer and Collaborator guest roles do not exist in MyDisguise. Anyone assigned those roles becomes a Member in MyDisguise, but retains their original role in Drive.
