Device Monitor
The device monitor lists every source that the local machine is currently receiving data from — for example, every MIDI port, OSC sender, DMX universe or tracking system feeding that recorder. It allows the user to easily inspect the incoming data and is available whenever the data is present, regardless of whether the recorder is in Live, Play or Record mode.
Each row in the monitor shows:
- Name — the name of the source.
- Monitor — a live preview of the most recent value received.
- Receiving — whether the source is currently sending data.
- Last Received — the timestamp of the most recently received command.
Opening the monitor
Section titled “Opening the monitor”To open a device monitor:
- Right-click the data monitor heading for the relevant data type (for example, MIDI or OSC) in the d3state bar at the top of the Designer window. A list of the devices associated with that data type appears.
- Select the device whose data you want to inspect.
- Click Monitor.
Filtering, sorting and clearing
Section titled “Filtering, sorting and clearing”Over a long session the monitor can build up many sources, including ones that have stopped sending. The following controls make it easier to find a specific source:
- Filter — type into the Filter box at the top of the monitor to show only rows whose Name contains the entered text. The match is case-insensitive and the list updates as you type.
- Clear — removes any sources that are no longer receiving data, leaving only those currently active. Sources that resume sending will reappear automatically.
- Sort — click a column header to sort by that column. Click the same header again to reverse the direction. The Last Received column sorts newest-first by default, which is the quickest way to find the most recently active source. The Monitor column is not sortable. The active sort column is highlighted while the other column headers appear dimmed.
The current filter text, sort column and sort direction are retained for that monitor window across sessions.
