Disguise X Range FAQs

Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about X range license instances.

Can I achieve 1-to-1 redundancy using 2x Disguise X range licenses?

Yes, this can be achieved. It is important to note that the X range license used in the Understudy role must be able to output the same number of video outputs assigned to the Non-Dedicated Director when in session. The table below outlines the expected d3net session behaviour this in more detail:

Yes, this can be achieved using an external video signal splitter.

Can I do non-16:9 resolutions on Disguise X range licenses?

Disguise X range licenses support a maximum resolution of X 4096px and a maximum resolution of Y 2400px across each available output head. Custom resolutions can be achieved across each output head, provided that they are within the 4096 x 2400 pixel rectangle, and that the choice of GPU used with Disguise X range can be configured according to the required resolution.

What versions of Designer support the Disguise X range licenses?

X1 is supported from r30.8. X2 is supported from r33.1.

Can I use NVIDIA Mosaic™ with Disguise X range licenses?

NVIDIA Mosaic™ is not currently supported by the X range licenses, however we are working to rectify this and will be releasing support soon.

The Disguise X range licenses are issued via email to the user after purchase. The email address that the license is issued to should be agreed upon at the time of purchasing the license.

The email will include instructions that the user must follow to activate the Disguise X range license.

How is a Disguise X range license activated?

The Disguise X range license needs to be activated by the user via the Disguise CodeMeter License Central Web Depot (link (here)[https://www.disguise.one/getlicense]). Enter the 25-character Depot Ticket from the email sent from Disguise in the ‘Ticket’ field and select ‘Retrieve’. On the next page select ‘Activate License’.

The Disguise X range license will be activated at the point of being issued, with an expiration date of 1 year (366 days) from the date that it is issued via email. The Disguise X range license does not activate at the point of first usage.

When is a Disguise X range license issued?

The Disguise X range license is issued within 2 business days once the license has been purchased.

Can I change the Disguise X range license activation date once I’ve purchased a license?

No, this is not possible.

When will my Disguise X range license expire?

The Disguise X range licenses are 1 year (366 days) from date of issue.

Can I transfer a Disguise X range license across different nodes?
Section titled “Can I transfer a Disguise X range license across different nodes?”

Disguise X range licenses require a physical Wibu CodeMeter USB License Key that the Disguise X range license is issued to at the time of launch. The CodeMeter USB License Key enables users to transfer X range licenses across different nodes for video playback.

Is a CodeMeter USB License Key included in the sale of a Disguise X range license?

No, the CodeMeter USB License Key can be optionally purchased.

Can I use my own CodeMeter USB License Key with a Disguise X1 license?

Yes, users can use an existing CodeMeter USB License Key for Disguise X range licenses. The serial number of the CodeMeter dongle must start with a 3-.

Users will need to send the serial number of the USB License Key if an existing CodeMeter USB License Key is used.

Can I run a Disguise X range license without a CodeMeter USB License Key?

No, this is not currently available. A CodeMeter USB License Key is always required to run a Disguise X range license.

Can I purchase a weekly, monthly or perpetual Disguise X1 license?

Disguise X range licenses are currently available on a recurring basis for 1 year (366 days) only. We will monitor demand for other license options over time.

What happens if the dongle used to host my X range license is lost or stolen?

We can restore an active X range license to another Codemeter dongle in the event of loss or theft. An overview as to how this can be actioned can be seen (here)[https://help.disguise.one/designer/getting-started/restoring-cm-license].

Can my X range license be rehosted from a centralised location?

This is currently not available.

Can I run a X range license on a Disguise media server that has reached End of Support or End of Life?

Yes, a user can install a CodeMeter dongle with a X range license onto a Disguise media server that has reached End of Support or End of Life (see product compatibility page here for reference) using the latest Designer software version.

What graphic driver do you recommend for my GPU?

We are unable to verify known-good graphic driver versions for users of Disguise X range licenses.

How can I test and validate the performance of my node before I purchase a Disguise X range license?

We strongly recommend the installation of a Designer software version using either the Starter or Pro plan on your chosen node specification to test and validate performance before purchasing a Disguise X range license.

Can I install Windows Home OS versions on the node that I plan to use alongside a Disguise X1 license?

We have not validated any other Windows OS versions except those that are listed under the Recommended Hardware Specification, which can be seen here. We will be unable to provide support on any nodes that fail to meet this specification. We will continue to monitor demand for specific Windows OS versions over time.

How does Designer determine display ordering on port order on the GPU, including the dedicated GUI output?

On Disguise hardware, we will query the GPU and try to make Windows match the display border to the order of the GPU ports, with the primary display at GPU port zero. We then draw to the first N displays where N is the number of licensed outputs.

On custom hardware, no reordering is performed. This must be done manually.

Is there any recommendations on synchronising the video outputs to genlock?

Genlock across multiple outputs is only possible if all outputs use the same timings. This includes fields like front and back porch, and not just resolution. If using different EDID files across video outputs, then you must ensure the video timings are the same across each video output or genlock will not be possible.

What support will be provided for Disguise X range licenses?

Support for Disguise X range licenses will be made available on a best-efforts basis only. Disguise will provide support to diagnose if an issue is related to Designer. Issues identified as Designer-related, for example, workflow issues that can be reproduced on a Disguise media server, will be logged and prioritised as normal.

Can Disguise Support assist me with troubleshooting issues specific to the node that I am using with my Disguise X range license?

The Disguise Support team is unable to troubleshoot issues relating to the node being used with the Disguise X range license, system performance, or system design.

On which platform will Disguise base its efforts to replicate issues?

The Disguise Support team will use a commercially available high-specification laptop as a baseline to reproduce the reported issues. This will help ascertain whether the issues are attributable to Disguise or external factors.
